paraphernalia

I am crazy in love with Paraphernalia, handmade delightful accessories made by Ms. Vanda out of Lisbon, Portugal. Her vintage design styling and treatment on necklaces, brooches & bracelets creates amazing adornments. It seems anything you could possibly want on a necklace is there for you... a heart, a typewriter, Victorian clothing, etc. See all of the sweetly intricate collections here.

through the devil softly

I have been eagerly awaiting the new album released today by Hope Sandoval. I've had a long fascination with Hope since her Mazzy Star days and it's been many years since she last recorded, until now. Through the Devil Softly promises to please old and new fans alike with it's gorgeous melodies and her flawless voice. Photo by Luz Gullardo.

oh my goddesses

Samar Nassar, owner of Hipline performing at the Rockridge Festival.

I was recently commissioned by hipline to design a logo for their high energy shimmy pop class. Soon to be available on tees & tanks.

I am so proud to be a part of something so beautiful...and if you don't know about it yet, you will. Hipline Belly Dance Fitness is the place, a wonderful dance studio run by the Nassar sisters in Berkeley, CA. They just celebrated their 1 year anniversary and yesterday put on an amazing show with a student group number and a performance by belly dance instructor/extraordinaire herself, Samar Nassar. This dance studio is always brimming with creativity & confidence and has brought together a wonderful community of women. So try a class or more and get your shimmy on! They also have a unique selection of hip scarves and jewelry in the studio's boutique. 3167 College Avenue @ Alcatraz.

little papercuts

The "little papercuts" series of artworks by Catherine Campbell are so pretty and pixyish. I adore the style and quality of her originally watercolored & collaged pieces that are now sold as prints in Catherine's etsy shop, My folk lover. You can find a variety of stunning illustrated prints to buy, as well as her new 2010 calendar. I just placed my order, every month of her lovely images, makes me very happy.

domino effect

The way it was. Vibrant pages & cover from domino magazine.
P
hotos by Melanie Acevedo

The future online magazine, Lonny. It's first issue features former domino editor-in-chief Deborah Needleman in her garden.

Like many other interior & decorating minded folks, I was heartbroken when domino magazine folded. So the news I saw today via WWD brings me great joy and hope for the future of magazines. The idea is a stellar one, a former domino editor teaming up with other greats in the industry to create an online-only shelter magazine, called Lonny. The name is a combination of New York and London and it's exciting launch is right around the corner on October 1st. Lonny will give similar features, tips and style like the old domino print mag, but with all viewing and shop linking done online...I'm on the edge of my seat in anticipation!

pretty prints

I have never been shy about wearing patterns and bold prints. In fact, I seek them out. The whimsical and adventurous brand, Tucker by Gaby Basora, is my latest crush. All of her shapes & silhouettes seem breezy and effortless. And with her amazing patterns, pieces can be styled in many different ways. What initially began as a single blouse design, has now evolved into extensive collections, including exquisite dresses, skirts and coats. Tucker fashion photos by Mei Tao.

i ♥ this shop

the beautiful screenprinted linen bags by local designer Diva Pyari of Linea Carta sold at Lola in Berkeley, CA

The Lola boutique in Berkeley is one of my favorite shops in the East Bay. When you step in the door, you are immediately immersed in the most calming and luscious space. Blended perfectly with bold and soft pieces, all with gorgeous decorative displays. It is obvious how much time and great care the owner Lois Vinsel takes in choosing her merchandise and bringing her unique vision to life. Full of the finest offerings of art, home and beauty goods, one can quickly become an addict of all things Lola. Located at 2950 College Avenue.

let's hear it for new york...

...and for Marc Jacobs with his seducing spring collection at fashion week. His looks full of layering, volume, satin, plaids, ruffles and gowns make me absolutely giddy. Everything is ultra feminine and gives off a dream-like fantasy charm. The color palette adds to the sheer beauty of it all and as Marc describes" “this was a trip to the theater, the ballet, the opera.” Good show! photo source: getty

factories of art

So the rain is gone...but don't you just love rainbows? Especially teeny tiny sculpture rainbows. I adore all the little pieces of work from the design duo PearsonMaron. Their ceramic factories of rainbow colors, hearts, clouds & more are fantastic. love love.

look on the bright side

To celebrate the rainy & gray weather we're having, I dream of the vibrantly colorful musical masterpiece, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg.

OMFG

The highly anticipated Gossip Girl inspired Anna Sui for Target line landed in stores today (tricky since the launch date is Sept. 13th). So, I zipped over to Target early and was relieved to find the full collection there and intact. It was definitely a crowded spot amongst the other clothing brands but still pretty civil with no elbows out (yet)! I suspect that by Sunday, there will be little remaining on the racks. I was not disappointed in the styles, but some of the fabrics felt too rough or the cut was ill-fitting. By far, my favorite piece was the ivory lace dress, which was also the one that came home with me. A close second was the blue belted shirt-dress. It was comfortable and had a cute shape, but I only allowed myself one look. Wasn't that thoughtful to leave some for everyone else?

And even though all the excitement and buzz is over Anna Sui right now, you must check out the other Anna at Target. Anna Sheffield's line of jewelry is so precious and well made. It all has a very vintage appeal especially the cuckoo clock ring and the birds & scissors earrings.

office space

my current mood board in the studio

The office is where I spend most of my time, therefore I need my studio to be as bright and inspirational as possible. I gather lots of little knickknacks and paper products on a regular basis. Some pieces get displayed and others get filed away somewhat neatly. Despite everything I already have, I'm always on the lookout for more office accessories to enhance the space. Because it can forever be a work in progress...

lace & luxe

I am hopelessly devoted to objects with cutouts or things that feature lace. These two companies have me hooked on their glorious use of material & form. First, Fenton Jewelry's collection combines the delicacy of lace and strong metals to create a unique ornamental piece of perfection. And second, Lightly's set of tabletop, home and wall products apply those same ideas, which utilize lace & crochet patterns, while molding a soft appearance out of hard matter.

sunday best

dresses top to bottom: Roxanne dress by Keemia, the Kate dress by Heidi Merrick, long floral by Mimi Turner. All available at Sunday Brunch.
To me, the ideal Sunday is having brunch with the people (and animals) I cherish most and indulging in delicious & sweet things. Every brunch needs a pretty dress to go along with it... My new favorite site is the Sunday Brunch Dress Shop. It's almost like peering into Betty Draper's closet, offering a gorgeous assortment of flirty, delectable gowns. There is also the wonderful gallery section featuring different artist's elegant & feminine illustrative paintings. The dress has long been my signature piece of clothing, so luckily with Sunday Brunch's selection, I can have one to wear every day of the week.

needlecraft

Jessica Marquez's beautiful embroidery art was just brought to my attention and I've quickly fallen for her Miniature Rhino shop. The tree stump designs are sweet on their own, plus they can be customized with couple's names, creating a cherished wedding/anniversary or anytime gift. Her constellation stitchings are equally engaging and I love the idea of styling them on a wall in multiples. You can really get a sense of her self-described inspiration, coming from history, natural science and the Victorian era. Have a look into Jessica's inventive thought process and vision, including her stunning photography work too. I'm deep in it.

basically brilliant

In a sometimes overly designed and fussy world, it's pleasing to see these basic shapes growth charts for kid's rooms. Co-op, a creative collective in Melbourne, Australia designed and packaged an exceptional product. Starting with a geometric approach, the playful animal characters were formed out of combining square, circle & triangle shapes. They succeed at being both a useful learning tool and an imaginative stimulation for young minds. The colors are so vivid and the packaging is again, beautifully basic set in a triangular carton using 100% recycled material. Does this mean geometry is actually fun?
